James "Joe" Otto, 91, of Dover passed away at his home on Monday, November 14, 2011.
Born on December 14, 1919 in Canton, he was the son of the late Albert Sr. and Alice Ledger Otto. He is also preceded in death by his brother; Albert Otto Jr.; foster parents, William and Anna Evans; along with three half sisters.
He attended Sacred Heart School. In 1985, he retired from Nickles Bakery following 30 years of service. Joe also worked at the Times Reporter for over 15 years. During World War II, he worked for Republic Steel then later for Clay Craft Brickyard.
Joe attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an avid sports fan. He was a well known umpire in the county for many years. He volunteered at the Salvation Army, Red Cross, and the Reeves Home.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters; Dolores Ann (Jerry) Miller of Dover, Beverly Howell of Dover; son, Douglas J. (Rhonda) Otto of Dover; a granddaughters, Michele (Adam) Heath of Dover.
A celebration of Joe's life will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 1:00 pm with Deacon Lyn Houze officiating. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 5-7pm and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
