James P. York, 74, of Chicago, Illinois and a former Dover resident died Monday, November 24, 2008 in Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago following a brief illness.
James was a luxury apartment manager in the Gold Coast area of Chicago.
Born September 4, 1934 in Waynesboro, Tennessee, the son of the late Earl A. and Rosielee Keaton York.
James enjoyed classical music. He loved working with his hands and was mechanically inclined. There was nothing he couldn't repair. His true love was his family.
He is survived by his son Mark (wife, Debra) York of Chicago; two daughters, Angelo Spano of Barberton and Kim Maurer of New Philadelphia; 6 grandchildren Taylor Maurer, Rian Pierce, and Nikki Reeps, Corey Simpson, Christopher Tompkins, and Kristina Sherbit; 5 great grandchildren Ethan and Christian Pierce, Tyler Parker, Kylie Reeps, and Adayah Sherbit; five sisters, Estelle (Francis) Hilton of Warsaw, Vera Potts and Carolyn (Thomas) Kinser both of New Philadelphia, Esta (Eugene) Johnson and Earlene McIneaney both of Chicago.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son in law, Don Maurer and a sister, Annabelle Louise York and a brother in law, Otis Potts.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6. 2008 at 4pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Charles Burrier officiating. Cremation will follow services with inurnment at a later date in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 3-4pm.
