James R. Eichel

James R. Eichel, 86, of the Hennis Care Centre and formerly of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Saturday, October 28, 2000 in the centre following an extended illness.

He owned and operated the former Jimmy Eichel Meat Market at New Philadelphia for 29 years and then was a meatcutter in Buehlers Foods at Dover for 12 years.

Born October 11, 1914 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Cora Rhodes Eichel.

Jim was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge, New Philadelphia Police Pension Board and the Tuscarawas County F.O.P. A. He was inducted into the Cy Young Oldtimers Baseball Hall of Fame and was the organizer of the New Philadelphia Midget League Baseball Program in 1950. He was a former member of the New Phila Eagles, Moose, Elks Lodges and New Phila VFW. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed hunting and playing golf.

He is survived by his daughter Shirley (Robert) Bollon of Dover
Two Sons Jimmy (Karen) Eichel of New Philadelphia and John (Cheryl) Eichel of Dover

Five grandchildren Chip (Julie) Eichel of New Phila, Kellie (Jim) Shaffer of Melbourne, Fla., Lonnie (Denise) Eichel of New Phila, Shawn Eichel of Cincinnati, and Ashley Eichel of Dover

Six great grandchildren Kyle, Joey, Britni, Samuel, Gabriella, and Brooke along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his former wife Evelyn; a brother Edward Eichel and a great granddaughter, Cassidy.

Pvt. Graveside services will be held Friday in the East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia with Rev. Gerhardt Mengers officiating. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover Tuesday from 6-8 PM with Masonic services at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia or the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.
