James R. "Jim" Weaver

February 29, 1916 — November 15, 2015

During his 100th year, James R. "Jim" Weaver quietly slipped into eternity on November 15, 2015, with his son and daughter around him while hand-in-hand with his loving daughter Judy. For James, the end came not with a bang or a whimper, but with a brief sweet smile and a sigh of release.

He was born to Victor and Emma Machan Weaver on the family farm at Dover on February 29, 1916. Jim first attended the one-room Oak Grove School (now Schoolhouse Winery). Jim began his working life during the Great Depression making $15 a week as Manager of the Woolworth store on Dover's main street. Though of humble origins, he determinedly pursued success and graduated from General Motors School of Business Management. His hard work, diligence and education culminated in the creation of Jim Weaver Chevrolet in Carrollton of which Jim was President and Owner. He came from a well-known area family that was engaged in several local automotive businesses, including Paul Weaver Buick-Cadillac (brother Paul - President and Owner, along with the involvement of brother Maurice), Weaver Truck & Trailer Sales (brother George) and Weaver Motors (Uncle Gene). Jim married Angela Pongratz on October 18, 1941, and they shared more than 60 years of marriage prior to Angela's passing in 2002. The couple were life-long parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover.

Survivors include Jim's siblings, Rita Sulcer of Columbus, and Thomas Weaver of Mineral City; Jim's two children, Richard "Skip" (Priscella) Weaver of Terre Haute Indiana, and Judy (Randal) Busick of Milford, Michigan; Jim's grandsons, Michael (Tracey) Ryan Weaver and Zachary James Weaver and Jim's great-grandson Douglas James Weaver. In addition Jim's step-grandchildren Seth (Rosa) Dunlap, Nathan Dunlap, William Devore and Brittany Devore, step-great-grandchildren Mathis and Masyn.

In addition to his parents, and his beloved Angela, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Paul, Maurice, Dale Weaver, and his step-grandson Ian Dunlap.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 19, at 11 a.m., in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dover; Fr. Jimmy Hatfield will officiate. To sign an online guest book and share a fond memory of Jim, please visit the Obituaries and Flowers link on the Toland-Herzig website.
