James "Ray" Stein

James "Ray" Stein, 64, of Tallmadge passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015.

Born on March 14, 1951 in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Robert and Alberta (Ladrach) Stein.

Ray graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1969. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army and served in Korea. Ray later graduated from Kent State University. He retired, after 32 years of service, from the City of Kent Police Department as Lieutenant of the Detective Bureau. He was a member and trustee of the Fraternal Order of Police, and a member of the New Philadelphia Elks.

Ray enjoyed coaching and volunteering his time with Tallmadge Softball Little League. He was a talented handyman and loved carpentry. Above all, Ray loved spending his spare time fishing. He especially looked forward to his yearly fishing trip to Canada.

He will be sadly missed by his wife; Elizabeth "Beth" Heck, whom he married on August 30, 1986; two daughters, Aime Stein (Fianc, Chad Dargham) of Columbus, Katie Stein of Boston; a granddaughter, Brooklyn Dargham of Columbus; three brothers, Robert (Karen) Stein of Dover, identical twin Gregory "Jay" (Reenie) Stein of New Philadelphia, Kevin (Saundra) Stein of Dover; along with many other close family, friends, and his three four-legged companions.

A celebration of Ray's life will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Following the service, the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Immediately following the military service, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 6-8pm.
