James E. Zimmerman

James E. Zimmerman, 81, of Shaker Heights, Ohio passed away suddenly on April 26, 2024, at South Pointe Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. 

He was born on December 26, 1942, in Dover, and was a son of the late Walter and Margaret Jones Zimmerman. 

After graduating from Dover High School in 1960, James pursued higher education and obtained his bachelor's degree from Denison University in 1964. He further honed his academic prowess by earning a law degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1967. James embarked on his professional journey as a lawyer for two years before discovering his passion for investing. This led him to transition into becoming a professional Investment Advisor, a role in which he thrived for 35 years before retiring from Raymond James Financial.

An avid bridge player, he was an esteemed member of the American Contract Bridge League and even served as its president. His skill and dedication to the game were recognized as he achieved the prestigious title of Life Master in bridge. Beyond bridge, James was a passionate sports enthusiast who particularly enjoyed following the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland's professional sports teams.

James is survived by his brother, Larry (Marilyn) Zimmerman of Cincinnati, along with nieces Kristin (David Jr.) Skidmore and Karin (Stuart) Larkins. He also leaves behind great nieces and nephews Alexandra and David Skidmore III, Charles, and Margaret Larkins.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover.  There are no services or calling hours.  Those wishing to express their fondest memories of James may do so by visiting the online obituaries link on the funeral homes website.
