Jane Ann Acker

Jane Ann Acker, the only child of ret Col Forrest F Skinner and Helen Ward Riley Skinner, died February 3, 2017 in Dover. She was born December 3, 1924 in Bismark North Dakota. She moved to the area to be close to family. She was a member of St. John's UCC, Walnut Creek.



Learning was a lifetime commitment for Jane. She was a graduate of Bismark High School, a PEO scholarship graduate of Cottey College (MO), attended Creighton University when it enrolled women during the war, and graduated from North Dakota State University in medical technology and archaeology.



Jane and Donald Louis Acker (May 24, 1983) were married August 21, 1947 in Plymouth Congregational Church, Fargo North Dakota. Don's career with Standard Oil/Amoco involved transfers in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and the United Kingdom. Curtains and bird feeders were hung, library cards acquired and a new community thoroughly explored. Their retirement years were spent between Naples FL and a cottage on Little Pine Lake, Perham MN. Jane traveled happily, and independently with Friendship Force and Elderhostel.



Jane and Don leave behind three children: David Forrest Acker and his children Nicolaus (Sarah and daughter, Sophia) of Montana, Amanda (Terry and daughter, Hazel) of Michigan and Mike Ruck (Jessica and children Andrew, Elora, Olivia, and Daric) of Illinois; Douglas (Laura and son, Donald (Kristina) of China) of Georgia; and Helen Kathleen Riley (Eric and children Abigail Hullinger (Greg and son, Dylan of Stow) and Miles (Tiffany) of Dover) of Winfield.



When it thaws, the family will gather at the Headwaters of the Mississippi. Her family thanks the kind hands that cared for Mom over the last decade. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover are handling the arrangements. There will be no public service or calling hours.
