Jane Comfort Craven, 84, of Dover, Ohio and a former resident of La Porte, Indiana for seventy seven years died Sunday, July 31, 2005 in her home.
Jane retired in 1982, as a schoolteacher in the La Porte community. She was also a former employee at the Engineering office in La Porte and Chicago.
Born August 25, 1920 in La Porte, she was the daughter of the late Frederic A. and Blanche Peoples Craven.
Jane received her B.A. degree from Miami University of Ohio with a major in Architecture. She received her masters degree from Western Michigan University in Guidance and Personnel.
She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in New Philadelphia. She was a former board member of the La Porte Credit Union and the La Porte County Historical Society. She was a member of the Tri Kappa Associates (an Indiana Service corporation) and member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and the Delta Phi Honorary Art Group. When in La Porte, she was a member of the St. Paul�(TM)s Episcopal Church.
Surviving family members include Ruth Peoples of New Philadelphia, David M. Peoples of New Philadelphia, Frederick Berndt of Hartville, and Tom Craven of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by a half brother, Frederic H. Craven.
At her request, cremation will be entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 11am in the Trinity Episcopal Church in New Philadelphia with Fr. Paul Johansen and Fr. David Hefling officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
A public graveside service will be held at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte on Thursday, August 18 at 10am.
