Janet F.Edwards Feller, age 77, of Dover passed away peacefully at her home on the hill, her favorite place in the world, on Monday afternoon, October 25, with her family by her side. She was surrounded by the sounds of a gentle waterfall, singing birds and purrs from her cat, Tabby.
Born in Uhrichsville, Ohio July 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. Edwards and Bernice Burdette Edwards Gamble. Janet was a 1951 graduate of Dover High School.
In 1952, she married the love of her life, Dean A. Feller, whom she met while working at Krantzheim's Ice Cream Parlor. The deal was sealed over a multitude of hot-fudge sundaes. They began their married life together by traveling west to Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, Washington and living in a 26 ft. trailer. She often said that it was the best way to start a marriage because they were so far away from home, they were forced to rely on each other.
Survivors, in addition to Dean, are her children, Holly Joy Gonter, Richard (Dorothy) Feller and Todd (Darsi) Feller, all of Dover and Deanna (Byron) Vickery of Upper Arlington, Ohio. Grandchildren, Abby Gonter and Grant Gonter of Cleveland, OH., Douglas(Brianne) Feller of Granville, OH., Aaron Feller of Dover, OH., Logan(Monica) Feller of Reynoldsburg, OH., Laura Feller of New Philadelphia, OH., Alexandra Vickery of Brooklyn, NY., Taylor Vickery of Upper Arlington, OH., Gabriel and Sophia Feller of Dover, OH. Janet's grandchildren were the joy and laughter of her life. They are her legacy and proof of all things wonderful.
Janet's siblings are, Doloris(Bill) Clinton of Dover,
Dean(Mary) Edwards of Dundee, Doyle Edwards of Rome, NY, Carol(Jerry) Clum of New Philadelphia, Marsha(Thomas) Shepherd of Newcomerstown, OH, Richard(Annie) Edwards of New Philadelphia, and Martin(Connie) Edwards of New Philadelphia, OH. The sisters, including Mary Edwards, shared a wonderful close-knit bond, and were a formidable force to be reckoned with, providing hours of giggles and laughter to all who were lucky enough to be included in their circle of love.
Janet is also survived by Dean's siblings, Virginia Dorsey of Stow, OH, Ellen(Glenn) Waggy of Seville, OH, and Earl(Cynthia) Feller of Dover and their families.
Besides her parents, Janet was preceded in death by in-laws, Rolan D. and Dorothy H. Feller, and her stepfather, Rev. William Gamble, all who were recipients of her loving care in their final years.
Janet leaves behind a legacy of a life well lived, hard work, devotion to church and family. She was a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover and retired from Jo-Ann Fabrics in Dover. She served as an Elder in the church, a 4-H leader and delivered Mobile Meals for over 10 years.
Being an accomplished seamstress, Janet was known to shower countless newborns with beautiful baby quilts. She was never happier than when she was "piecing" together a new blanket for a new life.
Never known to sit still, Janet spent her retirement years helping Dean restore his family farm, which has been in the family since the 1940's. She enjoyed hosting family and friends and neighbors at the many social events and weddings on the farm. She loved showing off the menagerie of animals, especially the babies. Janet was often seen driving around town with "CoCo", a baby Sicilian donkey, she bottle-fed and raised on her sun porch.
In the twilight of her life, she was blessed with hundreds of cards from well-wishers and her many friends. Even during her illness, she lived each day to the fullest and taught us all how to enjoy the simple gifts of life and to carry on with grace and dignity.
Friends and family are invited to gather Friday, October 29, from 2pm to 7pm at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover, Ohio.
