Janet Weisgarber Specht, 73, of Dover passed away Monday, March 20, 2006 in her home after a brief illness. She was born on July 3, 1932 in Massillon, Ohio to Leslie and Erma Weisgarber.
Janet was a homemaker and an active partner on the family farm, Trealayne Holsteins. Janet served as President of the Ohio Extension Homemakers and was a member of the Associated Country Women of the World. In these positions, she traveled to numerous nations representing the United States. While a member of Winfield Homemakers, she was instrumental in establishing the Homemakers Chorus that performed locally and nationally. She was a member of Winfield Grange, Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau, and the Ohio Holstein Women�(TM)s Association, in which she also provided leadership. Janet was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover, where she taught Sunday school and sang for 41 years in the Chancel Choir.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Ellis Specht, whom she married on August 18, 1952 and two children, Sharon (Larry) Rohrer of Columbiana, OH and Steven (Michele) Specht of Dover. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Hannah (Ryan) Steiner of Orville and David Rohrer of Columbiana, and Allison Specht of Columbus, Annie and Adam Specht of Dover. Further survivors include her sisters Joyce (Don) Dummermuth and Carol (Paul) Giannobile of Dover, brother John (Kathy) Weisgarber of Miamisburg, OH, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James.
Janet dearly loved her family and enjoyed attending her grandchildren�(TM)s sporting events, musicals, and 4-H activities. She was an avid Ohio State and Cleveland Indians fan. Her love of music was passed down to her children and grandchildren.
A funeral service celebrating Janet�(TM)s life will be held on Friday, March 24, 2006 at 11:00 am in St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ at Dover with Rev. Dan Schaefer and Pastor Larry Rohrer officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover on Thursday from 6-9 pm.
