Jay D. Springer, 87, of Dover passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2018 in the Community Hospice Truman House.

Born December 15, 1930 in Dover he was a son of the late Harry and Anne Avon Springer. Jay was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Mason Springer on March 1, 2012; sister, Elizabeth Schwarm; brothers, Max, Eldon and Donald Springer.

Jay graduated from Dover High School in 1948, and went on to serve his country with the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a photographer during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Gordon Printing in Strasburg, Middaugh Printing in Dover, but his most important role was being a firefighter, and having served as Captain of the Dover Fire Department for 25 years. He was a member of the First Moravian Church in Dover, 50 year member of Tuscarawas Lodge #59 F & AM in Dover, and a life member of the Dover VFW. In his spare time he enjoyed being with his family, shooting a round of golf and photography.

A wonderful and loving father and grandfather, Jay will be sadly missed by his three daughters, Beth Ann (Cody) Saucedo of Albuquerque, NM, Cindy (Jerry) Hisrich of Dover and Robin Springer-Vega (Joe Vega) of Alliance; eight grandchildren, Levi Mason Patteson & Becky Walsh of Albuquerque, NM, Sarah Rae (Ted) Kaiman of Albuquerque, NM, Jaye Brooke (David) Byers of Columbus, Madison Rene Hisrich of Dover, Arin Lee Blair (Mindy Billingham) of Columbus, Zyler Vega of Boston, Sara Renee Saucedo, Jacob (Evelyn) May both of Albuquerque, NM; seven great-grandchildren, Victoria Crosby of Denver, CO, Kallee Bernish-Good, Lucas Craig Byers, Sophie Mason Byers all of Columbus, Maceo May, Abe Kaiman, Phoebe Patteson all of Albuquerque, NM; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. A service celebrating Jay’s life will be held on Saturday, February 9 at 11:00 am in the First Moravian Church at Dover with Pastor John Wallace officiating.
