Jay W. Hare, 75, of New Philadelphia, and a long-time resident of Uhrichsville, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, in Union Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born May 2, 1931, in Dennison, Jay was the son of the late Judge Jonathan S. and Grace A. Wickett Hare. In his youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Jay graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1949, and served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Gradall Co. in 1993 after forty years of service. He was a member of the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Loyal Order of Moose of Uhrichsville.
Jay is survived by his wife, LaVerne E. Alexander Sewell Hare, whom he married on July 24, 1988; four daughters, Joyce (husband, Orrville) Dickerson, Debra Petry. Susan Waddington and Robin (husband, James) Johnson; eleven grandchildren, Ryan, Dawn, Lindsey and Jordan McDaniel, Jimi Festi (fiancé, Christy Ross), Alex Waddington, Amanda and Annette Dickerson, Todd and Marieta Cain; two great-granddaughters, Gabriel and Madelyn McDaniel; brother-in-law, William (wife, Betty) Alexander; sister-in-laws, Opal L. Milarcik, Anna (husband, Robert) Gunter, Freda (husband, Roman) Raber, and Doris Schreffler; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, his dog, Daisy Mae.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Stanley and Brent Hare.
Jay�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Rev. Harry H. Milligan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia. The V.F.W. will conduct military rites at the grave. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center 831 Boulevard, Dover.
