J.D. Caddell

J.D. “Tex” Caddell, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, in his sleep at New Dawn Retirement Community, just shy of his eightieth birthday.

Born Mar. 27, 1927, in Round Mountain, TX, he was a son of the late Walter David and Mary Hatrick Caddell. Tex attended school in Bertram, TX, and picked cotton while growing up. Later, he worked for the Edgar Funeral Home in Burnet, TX. Tex moved to Ohio in 1954, and a year later, on Nov. 26, married the former Martha Christine Casterline in the First Church of the Nazarene, New Philadelphia; the Rev. J.L. Seel officiated. He was employed by the U.S. Ceramic Tile Co. in East Sparta for thirty-five years, where he was shop foreman and served as union president.

Tex was a member of the Methodist Church in Bertram, TX, and attended the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia. He belonged to the Tusco Sportsman�(TM)s Club and the Sugarhill Rifle Club and the NRA. Tex loved to fish and hunt, he always said, “Sundays were made for fishin�(TM).” He also enjoyed running his dogs and working on automobiles.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Christine, with whom he celebrated fifty years of marriage on Nov. 26, 2005; a son, Donald (wife, Cynthia) Caddell of Strasburg; a daughter, Evelyn (husband, Steven) Albright of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Heather Caddell of Canton, and Nick and Jake Albright of New Philadelphia; a great-grandson, Grady McGuyrt of Canton; a brother, Herman Lee Caddell of Bertram, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tex was preceded in death by a brother, John Caddell; and by a sister, Leona Copeland.

Tex�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Pastors James Miller, his nephew, and Mike Williams officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the First Church of the Nazarene.
