Jean C. Corwin, 96, of New Philadelphia died Dec. 25, 2018 at her home after a few months of declining health.

Born on April 17, 1922 to Frank and Georgia Hoisington of Akron, Ohio, she was the last surviving member of her family. She is now with her Lord and Savior and her beloved husband, Tom.

She graduated from Garfield High School in Akron, Ohio in 1940 and married Thomas G. Corwin on May 3, 1941 in Ashland, Ky. and was happily married for 51 years until his passing on Feb. 25, 1992. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, and son in law, Bob Haswell and great granddaughter, Alexandra Gilmore.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Haswell) Jerry Speicher of Strasburg, Tom Corwin Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada and Alan (Debbie) Corwin of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Dirk (Chris) Haswell of Strasburg, Jason Haswell of Waterford, Mi., Christa (Derrik) Gilmore of Westlake, Devan (Jason) Marks of Strasburg and Ashley (Chad) Hutchison of New Philadelphia; three step grandchildren, Beth Wallace of New Phila, Amy (Ken) Yutzy of Millersburg, Craig (Lisa) Speicher of New Phila; 12 great grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia since 1954 and was very active throughout the years serving on many committees, sang in the choir and was well known for her pie baking. She was also a member of Chapter 222 of the Order of Eastern Star in New Philadelphia for over 50 years. She worked at Buehlers Grocery Store for 16 years at the original site on W. High Avenue and then it moved to the current Drug Mart location until her retirement in 1976. Both loved to travel and saw all the states but four. Her love of flowers kept her busy up until the last few months of her life. She embroidered baby quilt tops for all of the grandchildren and baby samplers for the great grandchildren.
