Jean E. Shores, 89, of New Philadelphia went home to her Savior on Thursday, April 23, 2015 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover where she resided for 11 years and was loved by her caregivers.
Born March 11, 1926 in New Philadelphia she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Anna Kratz Bartholow. She married Donald Shores on July 7, 1946 and together they celebrated 57 years of marriage before his passing on May 11, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her son David Allen Shores; brothers, Harold, Virgil and Curtis Bartholow; sisters, Helen Humrighouse and Irene Fess.
She graduated from Dover High School in 1944 where journalism was her passion. She was nurtured in her faith at First Church of God in New Philadelphia where she taught Sunday school and served as a camp counselor. She was a great cook, baker and loved her Christian friends in Rejoice and Yes Lord fellowships. Known as a Prayer Warrior she continued the practice at Hennis. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble, Gin Rummy and solving puzzles. Jean was a sales clerk at Bayer's Dress Shop in Dover and had also been a waitress at the Dutch Oven in New Philadelphia. She was a faithful member of Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover, having served as a Deaconess and was the past treasurer of Foursquare International. Always giving of her time, she was also a volunteer at Union Hospital for many years.
A wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, Jean will be sadly missed by her daughter, Bev (Larry) Brown of Dover; daughter in law, Jan Shores of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Joel (Jen) Brown of NH, April Brown of FL, Crystal (Brendan) Wagner of Cleveland, Ben (Crystal) Dyer of Cambridge, Tim Dyer of Zanesville and great grandchildren, Abby, Ezra and Finley of NH, Nicole Klapper of Massillon, Joshua Yackey of Dover, Brody and Camdyn Dyer of Cambridge and Braeden Dyer of Zanesville along with several nieces and nephews
A service celebrating Jean's life will be held on Monday, April 27 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at 246 East High Ave. New Philadelphia with Pastors David Wing and Ron May officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Friends can call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.
