Jean M. Wiegand

Jean M. Wiegand, 93, of Dover died Friday, May 10, 2013 in the New Dawn Retirement Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 15, 1919 in Bergholz, Ohio she was a daughter of the late Steve and Mary Baldovich Gornek. Jean was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl A. Wiegand on January 13, 1982, an infant daughter Dorothy Ann Wiegand and five brothers and three sisters.

In 1926 her family moved to Wainwright and "Jenny" went to Wainwright Grade School and graduated from Tusky-Warwick High School. On June 1, 1939 Jean married Earl A. Wiegand. Following the ceremony the couple began their life together by taking a honeymoon trip on their motorcycle. She had a love for music and at the age of four she started playing the piano and received a pump organ for her 16th birthday for thirteen dollars. Through many health problems Jean could still play the 88 keys quite well, even though she couldn't read a single note. She played and sang for masses, funerals, weddings and parties as late as the Wainwright School reunion in 2008. Her other interests have included gardening, cards, bingo, and crossword puzzles, but most importantly she loved being with and taking care of her family. Throughout her adult life she worked as a waitress and sold vitamins and jewelry. Jean had also been a member St. Joseph Catholic Church since moving to Dover.

A wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, Jean will be sadly missed by her children, Earl (Deanna) Wiegand Jr. of Dover, Jeanette (Jerry) Hunter of Coshocton, Diana Wiegand of New Philadelphia, Raymond "Tony" Wiegand and companion Peggy Shinaberry of Bolivar, Joe (Patty) Wiegand of Dover and Tom (Lisa) Wiegand of Dover; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 11:00 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Matt Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Tuesday from 6-8 pm with Christian Wake services starting at 7:45.
