Jeanne V. Gasser

August 9, 1918 — October 6, 2016

Jeanne V. Gasser, age 98, a long-time resident of Dover, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016, in Park Village at Dover.

Born August 9, 1918, at Justus, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Ethel Stuck Freshour. Jeanne graduated from Brewster High School in 1936, and went on to attend beauty school at Canton. She met Glenn A. Gasser at a dance in Dover's Spanish Ballroom, and the couple were married on April 13, 1940. They reared two children, operated the family's dairy farm, and shared fifty-one years of marriage prior to Glenn's passing on October 7, 1991. Jeanne was also employed by the J.C. Penney Co. at Dover from which she retired.

She was a member of Dover's First Moravian Church and the church's Women's Fellowship. Jeanne was devoted to her family, and she had a ready smile. Some of her favorite pastimes were going dancing (sometimes three or four times a week), traveling and shoe-shopping.

Survivors include her son, Allen (Jane) Gasser of Dover; her daughter, Linda (Harold) Sickels of Medina; her grandchildren, Dana (Ross) Randazzo, Marla (David) Mog, Jim (Laurie) Sickels, and Brenda (Brian) Carino; her great-grandchildren, Christian and Noah Randazzo, Zachary and Jessica Mog, David and Danny Sickels, and Katie and Kyle Carino; her special friend, Larry Lonzo; and her several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, Glenn, her sisters, Miriam Glee Bayer and Marilyn "Tootie" Cook; and her brother, Glenn "Bud" Freshour, preceded Jeanne in death.

A funeral service will be held Monday, October 10, at 11 a.m., in the First Moravian Church, with Pastor John B. Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the church's fellowship hall. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Sunday, October 9, 4 6 p.m., and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
