Jeannette Grant, 62, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, July 13, 2009, in her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born, February 7, 1947, in Honoraville, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Charlie H. and Bessie Long Lowery. Jeannette moved at a young age with her family to Dover, where she attended school, graduating from Dover High School in 1966. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was a retired employee of Zimmer Orthopedic Surgical Products in Dover.

Jeannette was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Dover, where she served as a deaconess and taught Sunday school. She was artistic and liked to work with her hands, creating greeting cards and jewelry, as well as knitting and sewing. She was fond of porcelain dolls, of which she had accumulated a large collection over the years. Jeannette was also adventuresome, and enjoyed travel throughout United States.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Grant, whom she married on November 3, 1978; a daughter, Melba M. Robinson (Roland) Witter of Atlanta, Georgia; two sons, Cie (Brandi) Grant of New Stanton, Pennsylvania, and Gregory (friend, Christy Detour) of Columbus; a special niece, whom she helped rear, Bessie Lowery of Columbus; three grandchildren, Autumn Witter and Braden and McKenzie Grant; seven sisters, Cleo Harper of Detroit, Michigan, Fronnie Pearl Peterson of Dennison, Edna Peterson of Steubenville, Orpah Harvey of Detroit, Carol (Sam) Sims of Dayton, Linda (Ocie) Brown of Detroit and Jo-Lynn (Tony) Miller of Milford, Michigan; three brothers, Ed Lowery of Elyria, Charles (Veronica) Lowery of Gary, Indiana, and Joe (Ann) Lowery of New Philadelphia; brother-in-law, Edward Grant of Uhrichsville; sisters-in-law, Annie Pearl Roberts of Brunson, South Carolina, Izora Grant of New Philadelphia, Jessie B. Lowery of Uhrichsville, and Brenda Lowery of Dover; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jeannette was preceded in death by three sisters, Eula Green, Naomi Barnett and Ruth McKenzie; and by two brothers, James and Grant Lowery.

A homegoing service will be held Saturday, July 18, at 11:30 a.m., in First Baptist Church, 140 Regent Street, Dover, with Rev. Christopher Lowery officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. There will be a luncheon in the church following the committal. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 803 North Wooster Avenue, Dover, on Friday, July 17, 5 �" 8 p.m., and on Saturday, 10:30 �" 11:30 a.m. at the church.
