Jesse M. Denslow, Sr., 82, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, in Union Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born Mar. 1, 1921, in Isabelle County, MI, he was a son of the late Claude M. and Debra Newton Denslow. He moved with his family as a child to New Philadelphia and attended school there. Jesse served honorably with the United States Navy during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. On Sept. 21, 1951, he wed the former Martha J. Patterson. The couple enjoyed forty-two years together, and raised two children, before Martha�(TM)s death in 1993. Jesse was employed by Marlite, Dover, for thirty-one years, retiring in 1983.
He was a former member of the First Baptist Church, and a present member of Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of New Philadelphia. Jesse was also a member of the Pike Run Trailblazers C.B. Radio Club, and his handle was “Big �~M�(TM).”
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Lou Daugherty of New Philadelphia; a son, Jesse M. “Buddy” (Cheryl) Denslow, Jr., of Barnhill; two grandchildren, Michelle (Rich) Cromley and Michael A. Denslow; a great-grandson, Dustin Chambers; four sisters, Edna Gintz of New Philadelphia, Prudence Kunse and Katie (Seward) Schuman, both of Florida, and Betty Getchey of California; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Martha, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther Fires, Lula Brown and Ruby Newland; and a brother, Willard “Bud” Denslow.
A funeral service celebrating Jesse�(TM)s life will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Pastor James Taggart of Otterbein United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the family home at 333 St. Clair Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia.
