Jimmy Ray "Skip" Harper, Jr., 58, of Strasburg went Home to be with The Lord on Sunday, August 7, 2022 surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 13, 1964 in Dover, he was the son of Jimmy R. Harper, Sr. of Strasburg and the late Diane Hensel Harper. He was a life-long member of St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg, where his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior has assured all who were close to Skip that he has won this battle with cancer and is now with Jesus.
He was a 1982 graduate of Strasburg High School where he played football and baseball. Skip was a Tiger through and through and bled Orange and Black; he never missed a sporting event his children played in, going so far as to be the football team camera operator for eight years. In addition to the Tigers, he was a huge fan of the Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
He loved spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing with all of his “sons." There are many memories spent with family and friends that were mentioned by him in his final days here on Earth.
Skip is survived by his sons, Jimmy (Anne) Harper III, Dylan (Taylor) Harper both of Strasburg, Chris Rentsch of London, England; proud “Grandpy” to his seven grandchildren, Karle, Khloe, Grace, Zachary, Landon, Emma, and Jeremy; and sister, Theresa McDonnell of Canton.
The family will be greeting friends in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg on Thursday from 5-7 pm. A service celebrating Skip's life will be held on Friday, August 12th starting at 11:00 am in the St. John United Church of Christ, Strasburg with Rev. Jason Rissler officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John United Church of Christ at 516 N Wooster Ave, Strasburg, OH 44680, or to Community Hospice at 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
