Joan G. Tierney

Mrs. Francis H. (Joan G.) Tierney, 96, of Dover, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002 in the Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.

Born April 26, 1905, at Steubenville, she was daughter of the late David P. & Catherine Jones Johns.

Joan was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church at Dover, a member of the Order of Eastern Star at Dover for over 60 years, and a charter member of the Mu Chapter of the Alpha Pi Sigma sorority. She had also been a Red Cross volunteer and a Gray Lady at Union Hospital.

She had worked as secretary for the former Reeves Steel and Manufacturing Company for over 27 years and had also served as secretary for the office of the Mayor of Dover for nearly 17 years.

Her husband, Francis H. ''Frank'' Tierney, died in 1954.

In addition, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. C.C. (Bernice) Dolan.

Survivors include: niece; Jean L. Close of Cuyahoga Falls, great nephew; David T. Dolan II of Kent, great niece; Joan Harper of Salem, New Hampshire, two great great nephews and one great great niece.

A public graveside service will be held Friday, February 1, at 10:00am in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Dover with Rev. Dr. David M. Oliver officiating. There are no calling hours.
