Joan M. (Anderson) McLaughlin, 54, of New Philadelphia passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020, at the Community Hospice Truman House after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 27, 1966, in Dover, she was the daughter of Earl (Carole) Anderson Jr. of Dover and Nancy (Richard) Elliot Bagent of New Philadelphia.
Joan graduated from New Philadelphia High School with the class of 1984. She later received her associate degree in Business Administration from Stark State College. She was a United States Army Veteran. She served as a mechanic in Baumholder Germany in the 101st Airborne Division.
Joan had a love for all animals, which is what led her to her career as a receptionist at Valley View Animal Clinic in Dover for many years. She has rescued many animals throughout her life and gave them a loving home. She was dearly loved by all of her friends and co-workers. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to the ocean, and shopping for purses and shoes. She was also an avid New York Giants fan. Above all, she loved spending time with her son, Michael.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband, David McLaughlin, whom she married on May 23, 1997. She also leaves behind her son, Michael Smith of New Philadelphia; step-son, Blake McLaughlin of Clearwater, Florida; sister, Connie (Matt) Dolvin of New Philadelphia, brother, Earl “Paul” (Jennifer) Anderson III of Stone Creek; her nieces and nephews, Stephanie Varney, Eric Lorenz, Nathan Dolvin, Paul (Ashley) Anderson, Amber Anderson; along with four great-nieces and nephews.
In honoring Joan’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted with the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes & Crematory in Dover. There will be no services or calling hours. To sign an online guestbook for Joan, visit the obituary link on the funeral home’s website.
