Joann M. Petrella

Joann M. Petrella, age 91, a life-long resident of Dover, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018, in Park Village Health Care Center, Dover.

Born September 28, 1926, in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Steve and Helen Rodd Tsantis. Joann attended Dover High School, and, on August 5, 1946, married Vincent R. “Vince” Petrella. The couple reared three children and shared forty-seven years of marriage prior to Vince’s passing on December 1, 1993. Joann was a loving wife, mother and grandmother – a homemaker. She was a member of Dover’s St. Joseph Catholic Church. Joann enjoyed crocheting, and created many afghans over the years, which she gave away to family and friends – she was always a joyful giving person. Joann also enjoyed crafts and cooking and baking – she was a master cookie baker, making thousands and thousands of cookies over the years.

Survivors include her children, Richard and Sharon (Diane) Petrella, both of Youngstown, and Barbara Petrella of Powell; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason Langer) Petrella of Phoenix, Arizona, and Matthew (Lindsay DelVecchio) Petrella of Cincinnati; her sister, Mary Lou Kiehl of Napa, California; her half-brothers, George and Jimmy Tsantis, both of Dover; and her many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Vince, Joann was preceded in death by her sisters, Marjorie and Jean Tsantis; her brothers, John “Bud” (her twin) and William “Bill” Tsantis; and her brother-in-law, Ron Kiehl.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Friday, August 3, 4 – 7 p.m. A Christian wake service will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 4, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Jeff Coning officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
