Joanne M. Mathias

Joanne M. Mathias, 87, of Dover passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021 in the Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia.

Born January 16, 1934 in Dover she was a daughter of the late John and Edith Brown Nigro. Joanne was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. “Dick” Mathias on January 7, 2007; son, Clyde “Rick” Mathias; brother, Nicholas Nigro Sr.; and sister, Shirley Casella.

Joanne retired in 1989 from JC Penney in Dover after many years of service. She was a proud member of the former Italian-American Festival Committee, and she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. An artistic woman, Joanne loved painting and won many awards at the Tuscarawas Country Fair for her embroidery work.

A wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, Joanne will be sadly missed by her children, Stephanie (Jim) Doutt of Medina, Joellyn (Tim) Troyer of Kent, John Mathias of Dover; grandchildren, Alexa, Jennifer, Sarah, Preston, Karie; great grandchildren, Jack, Emilee, Gannon, Easton and one more on the way.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 24th at 10 am in the Dover Burial Park with Rev. Thomas Dunkle officiating. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements.
