Joanne Warther

March 27, 1929 — November 25, 2018

Joanne Irene Warther of Dover passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018.

Born March 27, 1929 to Lester and Mary (Weinmann) Carl, Joanne grew up with her family in Dover. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1947 where she went on to attend the Columbus Business College, earning a two year degree in Bookkeeping in just nine months time. On July 15, 1949, she eloped with the love of her life, Dave Warther. In their 62 years of marriage, they had seven children together. Just six years after their marriage, she and Dave began E. Warther and Son (Warther Cutlery) together. Dave and Joanne were the perfect balance of business partnership, creating and continuing companies of great success in the community that are carried on today. Dave Warther was always the public face and the dreamer of the Warther Museum and E. Warther and Son, but Joanne was the quiet and driving force behind both companies, which kept Dave grounded in his ideas. Joanne’s major passion was the gift shop, first started in 1963, doubling in size in 1987. One of her biggest pleasures in life was her well known adoration for Mickey Mouse. Joanne was forever a fan, visiting Disney World countless times in her life. She was a fierce business woman, loving wife and mother, and will be missed by many. She enjoyed playing cards and swimming and in her younger years was a member of the CCL. She and her husband Dave served as former Parade Marshals for both the Dover Christmas and Halloween Parades.

She is survived by five children: Carol and Dana Moreland, David (Maryruth) Warther, Mark (Pat) Warther, Lisa (Mike) White, and Dan and Julie Warther. She is deeply missed by 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Dave, children Richard and Dale Warther, her parents, and sister, June Trucinski.
