Joe F. Cappell, 72, of Dover, Ohio and a longtime businessman, poet, and political leader died Tuesday, May 30, 2000 in his home following an apparent heart attack.
Joe served as the chairman of the Tuscarawas County Democratic party for eight years. He was a longtime representative of the Imperial Book Company. He also founded the Alladin Book Company and developed the Five Cap Corporation. Joe also worked for the former Cappell Furriers, Tailors, and dry cleaners.
Born August 20, 1927 in Dover, he was the son of the late H.R. and Luella Dale Buss Cappell.
Joe served on the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections for many years. He instituted the student government day program in Tuscarawas County. He was a life member of the Dover Elks Lodge and member of Union Country Club for many years. He was the author of the book, The Little I and enjoyed reading and golfing. He was Past President of the Dover Jaycees and was a World War II U.S. Marine Veteran where he was a boxer. He was previously a candidate for the State Representative.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty Lou) Hyde Cappell who died May 21, 1996.
He is survived by two sons J. Marc (Marla) Cappell of Dover and Richard A. Cappell of Newark.
One daughter Marcia (Mark) Swiger of New Philadelphia
Eight grandchildren Marc William Cappell, Mindi and Marcee Cappell, Laura Booher, Lisa Cappell, Meagan Worth – Cappell and Rachel Worth- Cappell, and Hannah Elizabeth Swiger.
One great grandson, Garnet VonKaenel
One Sister Mary Lou Lane of Navato, California
He was preceded in death by his brother, William (Bill) Cappell.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 5, 2000 at 11 AM in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover with Rev. Christopher Lowery officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
