John A. Swisshelm

John Albert Swisshelm, 69, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia went to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, July 5, 2011 in Mercy Medical Center at Canton following a brief illness.

John was a retired employee of Howden Buffalo in New Philadelphia formerly Joy Mfg. Company following 40 years of service. He was also wellknown for his 27 year job at Dover Hardware.

He was born March 1, 1942 in New Philadelphia, the son of the late Robert and Donna (Mills) Swisshelm.

After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966-68.

He will be remembered for always being there to help people. He often assisted his friends in their repair and remodeling projects. He was a man of faith and multiple capabilities. In 1973, John earned his single pilot license 111 and loved flying the blue skies. He also enjoyed photography and was a ham radio operator.

He was a faithful member of Dover Foursquare Church and Newpointe Community Church both in Dover where he worshipped for over 50 years.

John will be sadly missed by his wife Ruth Frautschy Swisshelm with whom he would have celebrated 48 years of marriage on Dec. 7; one son, Bryan Swisshelm of Dover; a sister Judy (Doyle) Shoup of New Philadelphia; sisters and brothers in law Kay Swisshelm of New Philadelphia, Doyle (Betsy) Frautschy, June Frautschy, and Mary Ann Frautschy all of Dover along with numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by two brothers Robert Swisshelm Jr. and William E. Swisshelm.

Pastor Rod Phillips will officiate private services for John in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory. He will be laid to rest in the Dover Burial Park. There are no calling hours.
