John A. Wolfe, 65, of Dover, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Sunrise of McCandless, Pennsylvania, following an extended illness.
Born January 30, 1950, in Pittsburgh, John grew up in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and was the son of the late Gilbert "Hank" and Jean (Adams) Wolfe. He graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1968, and went on to earn his bachelors degree in history with a minor in psychology - from Kent State University in 1972.
John worked with individuals with developmental disabilities throughout his 37-year career. He was a teacher, principal, and administrator for Starlight School and the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities for 31 of those 37 years. Friends, family, colleagues, and clients knew John's wonderful sense of humor and love of entertaining. He also very much enjoyed playing the guitar, camping and exploring nature, model railroading, and racing.
He will be sadly missed by his two daughters and their families, Amanda Wolfe and Colin Kearns of New York, New York, and Audrey Wolfe and Brandon Keffer of Boston, Massachusetts. John will also be missed by his sister, Jonelle Wolfe-Short and brother-in-law, Arthur Short; his niece, Sammantha Peoples and her son, George Henry Kirberg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-mother, Helen (Wolfe) Cook.
A memorial celebration of John's life will be held Thursday, May 28, at 7 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover. Friends are invited to call at the center on Thursday, 5 7 p.m. John's family humbly asks that those planning to attend please write a fond memory they have of John those written memories will be collected for the family to cherish.
