John Calvin Jensen, 64, a longtime resident of the Atwood Lake region, died Sunday, July 22, 2007 following a courageous battle with Peritoneal Mesothelioma.
He was born September 23, 1942 at Yonkers, New York, the son of John S. & Marjorie Cook Jensen, who currently reside at Valencia, Pennsylvania.
John graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1960, and went on to graduate in 1964 from Mt. Union College, where his studies focused on Mathematics and business.
Always a skilled and dedicated employee, John began his working career with U.S. Ceramic Tile at East Sparta. Most recently, he served in the important role of Environmental Manager for the Belden Brick Company at Sugarcreek. His loyalty to Belden Brick, and to the Belden family, was unquestioned, and both the National Brick Research Center at Clemson University, and the Brick Industry Association noted his impact in the trade. Through his longtime involvement with the Ohio Aggregates & Minerals Association (OAIMA), and the Ohio Manufacturers Association, he became an industry leader in arranging coordinated efforts in response to air and solid waste regulations. He remained a member of OAIMA(TM)s Board of Directors and was a member of its environmental, legislative, and membership committees.
He was also lauded for his ability to train and develop staff, as he knew the importance of putting people first.
Outside of the office, John was great to be around! He had a terrific sense of humor and lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed boating and was very close with his friends and neighbors at Atwood " any of whom, he would have given the shirt off of his own back.
John was a loving husband, and will be especially missed by his wife of 12 years, Jo Maureen (Miller) Jensen.
Other surviving family members include: two uncles, Robert P. Cook of Weston, Mass, and Jack Wilson of Wayland, Mass; a brother-in-law, Harrison Miller of Tennessee; and three cousins, Cynthia (Fred) Roeber of Portsmouth, RI, Joanne (Shep) Barnett of Wayland, Mass, and Karl (Cha-Che) Bertelsen of Tallahassee, FL.
