John D. "Hersh" Hershberger

John D. "Hersh" Hershberger, 58, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Strasburg died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 in his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Hersh was a crane operator for 24 years at the Greer Steel Company at Dover.

Born June 29, 1955 in Dover, Ohio, he was the son of Elaine Slemmer Hershberger of Strasburg and the late Tom Hershberger.
He was a member of the Class of 1974 at Strasburg Franklin High School. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed doing mechanical work on cars. He loved family cookouts and watching his grandsons participate in their sporting events. He also enjoyed socializing at the Shady Rest Army Navy Club near Beach City.

In addition to his mother, "Hersh" is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Hartline Hershberger. They were married on July 1, 1977. He will also be sadly missed by his children Joshua (Anna) Hershberger of Midvale, MacKenzie (Francisco) Lux Perez and Nick Hershberger both of New Philadelphia; six grandsons, Hunter, Colvin, Garret, Alex, Isaiah and Gabriel; three step grandsons, Juan, Hector, and Maribi and a special nephew, Christian along with two special sisters in law Libby Taylor of New Philadelphia and Jody (Roger) Cline of Beach City; five brothers and sisters, Lucy (Clint) Stamets, Rick Hershberger, Tom "Jr." (Kay) Hershberger, Debbie (Chuck) Shearer and Kathy (Dan) Donato.

Hersh's family would like to thank all of his "brothers" at Greer Steel for the love and support shown him over these difficult days.
