John E. Maurer

John E. Maurer, 69, of Dover died Friday, April 27, 2012 at Union Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born December 13, 1942 in Dover he was a son of the late Elmer and Hazel Rufener Maurer.

He retired in 2011 from Kimble Clay and Limestone after 21 years as a heavy equipment mechanic. John was a hard worker who provided well for his family, and in his spare time he loved being with his family, especially following his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a member of the Winfield Zion Lutheran Church, Dover Eagles and the Dover-Zoar Road Gun Club.

A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, John will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Doris Sommers Maurer whom he married on June 8, 1960; sons, Jerry (Susan) Maurer of New Philadelphia, Dale Maurer of Dover and Glen (Vicky) Maurer of New Philadelphia; brother, Walter (Yvonne) Maurer of Dover and sister, Mary Lou Bleininger also of Dover; grandchildren, Amanda Maurer and her fianc, Ben Miller, Kyle (Jessica) Maurer, Alison, Matt and Amy Maurer.

A service celebrating John's life will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 10:30 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Ellen Mills officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 pm.
