John E. Voelm, 81, of Dover, Ohio died Thursday, August 20, 2009 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following an extended illness.
John was an employee of Dover Tank and Plate until illness forced his retirement. He had also previously worked for the Gradall Company. John and his wife, Rose also owned and operated the former Voelm�(TM)s General Store in Columbia for fifteen years.
Born March 1, 1928 near Dover, he was the son of the late Clinton H. and Madalon (Urfer) Voelm.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. He was also a member of the Dover VFW, Dover Eagles and Moose lodges and previously enjoyed spending time hunting at the Pine Hill Hunting Club. He enjoyed tinkering on his toy farm where he raised animals and gardening.
He is survived by his wife Rose (Monaco) Voelm with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage on June 14; a son, Dr. Clint (wife, Brenda) Voelm of Strasburg, a grandson, Jonathon Voelm a student at Kent State University and a sister, Donna Westlake of Alexandria, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Pongratz.
A Rite of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 11am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Matthew Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover on Monday from 4-7pm with Christian Wake Services at 6:30pm.
