John F. McConnell, 85, of 2925 St. Rt. 516 NW, Dover, Ohio went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999 following a brief illness.
He retired in 1973, as a mechanic for the Timken Company in Canton where he worked for over 30 years.
Born December 24, 1913 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, he was the son of the late John F. and Lillie DeVault McConnell Sr.
John was a member of the Midvale United Methodist Church. He enjoyed exhibiting cars in auto shows. He was also an avid fisherman and camper.
He is survived by his wife Mable Randolph McConnell with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage July 8.
He is also survived by two daughters and sons in law Mary Belle (Floyd) Jones of New Philadelphia and Lillian (Max) Davis of Roswell.
Three grandchildren Vivian Jones, Mary (Jim) Balder, and Floyd “Junior” (Netter) Jones, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Luella B. McConnell, one great granddaughter, two sisters, and one brother.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 PM in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor Gordon Myers officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park.
