John H. Carruthers, 69, of New Philadelphia passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, June 27, 2018.
Born November 27, 1948 in Dover he was a son of the late John W. Carruthers and Viola Rondinella Vierheller.
John was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Following his discharge, he was employed at New Philadelphia High School and retired in 2008 as the Building and Grounds Supervisor after 31 years of service. John was an active member at the First Moravian Church in Dover where he sang in the choir and served on the Board of Trustees. He loved being outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his younger days, he enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and was the middle school volleyball coach at New Philadelphia.
A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, John will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 48 years, Anna “Eileen” Miller Carruthers; four children, including, Chad (Heidi) Carruthers of Beach City, Shari (Doug) Toth of Gnadenhutten; sister, Bonnie (Dave) Antonelli of Dover; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 2nd at 11:00 am in the First Moravian Church with Pastor John Wallace officiating. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in the church social hall. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Sunday, July 1st from 5-8 pm.
