John J. Ranta, 89, of New Philadelphia passed away on January 7, 2021, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover.
John was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 6, 1931. He was the son of the late Dr. Onni O. and Edith M. (Joslin) Ranta. He graduated from Avalon High School with the class of 1949. He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force as an Aerial photographer during the Korean War. He attended Ohio State University in the pre med program for three years.
He married Janet M. Hupp Ranta, who preceded him in death on February 2, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Konle.
He retired from the Ford Motor Company where he was a machine repairman for many years. John enjoyed woodworking, photography, and was a licensed pilot.
He leaves behind his five children; Jon (Denise) Ranta, Daryn Ranta, Shay Ranta, Tanya Ranta, and Janae (Michael) Lutz; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; his sister, Eleanor Gigandet; along with many nieces and nephews.
