John J. Stoller, 92, died Saturday evening, Aug. 7, 2004, in Country Club Retirement Center following an illness of several months.
Born Dec. 16, 1911, in Stone Creek, O., he was a son of the late John Stoller and Mary Cronebach Stoller. His wife, Helen C. Renneker, preceded him in death in April 1994.
After moving to Dover in 1935, he worked at the Greer Steel Company, followed by an extended period in his favorite vocation as an owner-operator truck driver associated with A.J. Weigand Inc. John also served as Service Director for the City of Dover and was employed by the Shenango Co. in charge of plant security. Finally, returning to his love of the life of a trucker, he was employed by the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. until he retired in 1979.
He was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover for over 60 years, was a Golden Eagle Member and Past President of Dover F.O.E. 515, life member of the Dover Moose Lodge, a life member of Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens, AARP, a Master Mason of Dover Grand Lodge F. & A.M., No. 59, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Tadmor Shrine of Akron.
John was active in bowling leagues until his mid-80s. He had an avid interest in reading about and watching stories about local, national and world events, as well as watching the ever-changing fortunes of the Cleveland Indians. What he will be remembered for is his lifelong honesty, integrity, sincerity and loyalty.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (Robert) France of Dover, O.; two sons, Larry (Sue Ellen) Stoller of North Royalton, O., and David Stoller of San Antonio, Texas. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Scott) Thomson, Susan (Kerry) Steiner, Matthew (Lynne) France, Jon (Martha) France, Ben Stoller, Meredith (Jesse) Arias, Sarah (Mike) Colglazier and Zachary Stoller, along with eight great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Conner Thomson, Brooke Steiner, Micala, Caroline and Christian France and Ethan and Mason Colglazier; one step-great-grandchild, Becky Steiner; sister-in-law, Arline McMillin of Stone Creek; sister, Clara Ritenour of Canton, O.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Janis Stoller; two half-brothers, Elmer Heister and Gust Stoller; one half-sister, Florence Emen; two infant sisters; brother, George Stoller; and sister, Ida Arbogast.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Dan Schaefer officiating. Interment will be in Dover Burial Park. Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Eagles services will be held Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. followed by Masonic services at 8 p.m.
