John William "Jack" Marshall, 81, of Dover passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Hennis Care Centre in Dover following a period of declining health.
Born September 9, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio he was the son of the late James and Lois (Morse) Marshall.
Jack graduated from Dover High School in the class of 1947. He later graduated from Kent State University. He served with distinction in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was awarded a Bronze Star.
At a young age, he went to work for his father in his construction business and continued to work there until the business was sold. His careers included; teaching at Tuscarawas High School, he was a supervisor at Reeves Mill, Service Director at Dover, and he retired from W. E. Quicksall Consulting Engineers.
He was a member of the Dover/ New Philadelphia Elks, Dover VFW, Tuscarawas Masonic Lodge #59 in Dover, Harrisburg Consistory, Tad Mor Temple. He was also a life member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dover.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Husmann, who he married on June 18, 1954. Together they raised four sons; David (wife, Shelly) of Cincinnati, John (Companion, Tracy) of Dover, Tom of Los Angeles, CA, Peter (wife, Mami) of Philadelphia, PA; four grandsons, and two granddaughters.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his brother, James M. Marshall.
In honoring Jack's wishes, cremation will take place through the care of Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial service will be held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dover on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 11:00 am with Pastor Donald Rice officiating. A meal will follow in the church reception hall. Burial will take place at Dover Burial Park at a later date. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, August 18, 2011 from 5-7 pm.
