John J. “Jay” Strauss, 70, of Strasburg died Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Aultman Hospital from complications from Covid.
Born September 12, 1951 in Dover, he was the son of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Gross) Strauss. In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur.
He was a retired business consultant. He also enjoyed rebuilding and restoring vehicles and fixing broken things. In his earlier years, he won many detailing awards for his painting techniques on motorcycles. He had a fondness for his little red truck that he drove for many years. He also loved listening to and performing music and was lead singer for the “Good Guys” band. He enjoyed family vacations with friends and special gatherings during the holidays. He had an affinity for mowing his lawn that he groomed nearly every day all year round and will be remembered for his telling a good joke that usually included an accent to accompany it.
He graduated from Strasburg High School in 1969 and received his business degree from Kent State University.
Jay will be sadly missed by his family that include his two children, Tara Marie (Larry) Howard of Dover and Johnathon David (Jeneal) Strauss of New Philadelphia; his fiancée, Cynthia McDonald Airhart of Strasburg; nine grandchildren, a brother, Richard (Terri) Strauss of Lodi, Ohio and two sisters, Ronda Renner of Strasburg and Colleen (Bud) Everett of New Philadelphia.
A public visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 from 4-7pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 140 S. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg. Cremation will follow.
