John E. “Gene” Kennedy Sr., 74, of North Star in Dover, Ohio died New Year�(TM)s Day, 2005 at Union Hospital following an extended illness.
Gene was Treasurer of Johnson Rubber Company in Middlefield until his retirement in 1980.
Born February 10, 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of the late William “Ted” and Jane M. Kennedy.
He was a member of St. Joseph�(TM)s Catholic Church at Dover. He was also a life member of the Dover Elks Lodge. He enjoyed singing and was a former member of the Cleveland East Suburbanairs Barbershop Chorus. He received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from John Carroll University in 1956. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Gene is survived by his wife, Patricia Wise Kennedy with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on May 30. He is also survived by three children, Jack (Connie) Kennedy of Bellville, Ohio Bryan (Megan) Kennedy of Hudson, Ohio and Mary Kennedy of Dover. Seven grandchildren Kelly, John, and Sarah Kennedy; Kelsey, Kevin, Tim, and Annie Kennedy; three step grandchildren, Amy Ice, Tara Born, and Carrie Brazil; five step great grandchildren, Ethan Ice, Paige Born, Regan Born, Dylan Newdigate, and Isaac Brazil; five sisters in law, Marge Kennedy of Dover, Eilein Liberatore, Mary Jane Wise, Marguerite Ledger, and Jackie (Vince) Sandy along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert J. Kennedy, Donald P. Kennedy, and William E. Kennedy Jr.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at 10:30 am in the St. Joseph�(TM)s Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Monday (today) from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Elks services will be held Monday at 5:45pm and a Christian Wake service will be conducted Monday at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.
