John Schaar

John Schaar Sr, 86, passed away on December 27, 2024, at Hennis Care Center in Bolivar. 

Born on December 20, 1938, in Dover, Ohio, he was the son of the late Robert and Grace (Feller) Schaar. 

John married Mary Bair on January 8, 1960. Mary preceded him in death on September 7, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bob Schaar, and son-in-law, Tommy Thompson. 

John’s career was marked by his time as a steel worker, a profession that reflected his strength and dedication to his craft. He also was a farmer. His work ethic was a testament to his character, and he found pride in every task, whether it was in the steel mill or on the farm.

He enjoyed having dinner with friends and his family. 

He leaves behind his three children; Patricia Thompson of Uhrichsville, Brenda (Jerry) Goehring of Dover, and John (Melanie) Schaar Jr. of Sherrodsville; his grandchildren, Ben, Jeremy, Shelby, John III, Kendall, and Katie; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Patti Schaar of Dover and Elizabeth (Leroy) McDougall of Dover; along with his sister-in-law, Terri Schaar. 

Friends are invited to gather at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from 10:00- 11:00 am. A celebration of John’s life will follow at 11:00 with Pastor David Wing officiating. Burial will follow next to Mary at Dover Burial Park.
