Jon K. Marshall, age 47, of Dover, who had battled disease and illness much of his life, entered into the joy of the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, and was made whole.
Born May 30, 1964, in Punxsutawney, PA, he was the son of Thomas and Cheryl Geiser Marshall of Dover. Jon graduated from Dover High School in 1982, and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in English (Editing and Publishing) from Kent State University. He also earned an Associate's Degree in Criminology and became a paralegal. Jon was a freelance writer who had written his own book, Jericho Hill & the Case of the Fallen Angel. He also interviewed professional wrestlers and wrote about their lives and sport.
Jon was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover. As a young man, he was very active in the church's Boy Scout troop, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout and receiving his Three Palms and Fifth Year Pipestone. Additionally, he was a member of the Order of the Arrow. Jon belonged to an independent writer's group, meeting locally to discuss ideas and technique. He was a whiz with electronics and the computer, and his family and friends will certainly miss his expertise. Jon was also a member of the Imperial Klingon Expeditionary Forces' IKV Doomslayer.
In addition to his loving parents, Tom and Cheryl, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Lee Ann and Dale Miller of Strasburg; a niece whom he doted on and had all the best hopes and dreams for, Ellie Miller; his nephew, Mark Miller of Dennison; aunt, Phyllis Baker of Dover; three uncles and aunts, Chris and Nancy Marshall of Cabot, PA, James and Carol Marshall of Beaverton, OR, and Kenn and Colleen Marshall of Etters, PA; several dear cousins; and his dog, Maddy.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m., in St. John's United Church of Christ with Rev. D. Gene Kraus and Jon's uncle, Dr. Chris E. Marshall, officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in St. John's social hall.
