Joseph A. Brave (Brady), 73, died peacefully, Wednesday, Mar. 3, 2004, in his Dover home surrounded by his family.
Born Feb. 4, 1931, in Cincinnati, he was a son of the late Michael and Victoria Rapsco Brave. Joseph was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Dover, and served honorably with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a union carpenter, and helped build the Alaskan Pipeline. He was known as “Prudhoe Joe” by his many friends in Alaska.
Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Church, Dover, a proud member of Post 3463 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, also of Dover, and Carpenters�(TM) Local 1243 of Fairbanks, AK.
He enjoyed playing poker, golfing and fishing. Most of all, he loved being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include five daughters, Kathy Brave of Fairbanks, Debbi (Bud Whitfield) Brave of Dover, Rindy (Blaine Thomas) Brave of Stow, Kris (fiancé, Steve Desch) of Cuyahoga Falls, and Linn Brave of Akron; eleven grandchildren, Kenne Rhyne, Jerry Dillon, Jessica Fisher, Devin Fisher, Katrina Garrett, Erin Hoffman, Nicole Brave, Brittney Brave, Brendon Thomas, Stefani Brave Desch and Aiden Brave; two great-granddaughters, Angel Fisher and Ally Garrett; sister-in-law, Sue Brady of Dover; many nieces, nephews and cousins, including the Antonelli Family of Dover.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Brady, and by a brother, Samuel Brady.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover, Sunday, Mar. 7, 2 �" 5 p.m. A Rite of Christian Burial will be held Sunday at 5 p.m., in the funeral home. Fr. William L. Arnold will officiate. Joseph�(TM)s body will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered at Stone Creek (directions will be available at the funeral home), Sunday, Mar. 14, at 1 p.m. The Dover V.F.W. will conduct military rites. Following the scattering, family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering in the Dover V.F.W.
