Joseph A. Moro

January 1, 1937 — May 8, 2014

Joseph A. "Joe" Moro, age 77, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, in his home after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Born January 1, 1937, at Mingo Junction, he was a son of the late Edward and Anna Duska Moro. Joe graduated from Mingo Junction High School and went right to work for Weirton Steel at the young age of seventeen. He was employed by Weirton Steel for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1993 as a heavy duty mechanic. Joe married the former Carrie Lee Shaffer on March 12, 1957. The couple reared five children, and moved to New Philadelphia in 1991. Joe was also a Navy veteran.

Joe attended New Philadelphia's Broadway United Methodist Church. He loved to fish, especially at Piedmont Lake and on trips to Canada. Joe liked to travel, and was also musically inclined, playing the bass violin and the guitar. He enjoyed going to garage sales, and sometimes sold some of his finds at the Hartville Flea Market. Additionally, he was a man that liked a good joke.

He will be sadly missed by his family, which includes his wife, Carrie; his four sons, Joseph E. (Georgia) Moro of Wintersville, John A. (Cathy) Moro of Steubenville, Tim A. (Mellissa) Moro of Hopedale, and Tom J. (Tracy) Moro of Uniontown; his eleven grandchildren, Mandy, Emily, Lindsay, Erin, Carly, Alaine, Sara, Jonah, Addy, Allen and Evan; his five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Layla, Nico, Jack and Brantly; his sister, Jeannette (Sam) Minotti; his brother, Edward Moro; and his several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Ann Williams.

A memorial service will be held Monday, May 12, at 11 a.m., in Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church St. S.E., New Philadelphia, with Pastor Bob Kuntz officiating. The New Philadelphia post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct military rites at the church. Immediately following the ceremonies, there will be a luncheon in the church hall. Family and friends are invited to call at the church on Monday, 10 11 a.m. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Joe, please visit the Obituaries and Flowers link on the Toland-Herzig website.
