Joseph C. “Joe” Maybaugh, 77, of Dover passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on April 9, 1933 in Brewster, Ohio he was the son of the late Clois Maybaugh and Agnes Teasdale. He graduated from Brewster High School in 1950 and continued his education at Walsh College where he received an associate�(TM)s degree in accounting. Joe honorably served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
On May 14, 1960 he married the love of his life and best friend, the former Louise D�(TM)Agnone. Together they had four children.
He retired from Union Hospital in 1996 where he served as the patient accounts manager.
Joe was a dedicated member of our community. He was a retired Treasurer of the City of Dover and a Dover City Councilmen. He also served on the Dover Board of Education, Buckeye Board, and the Rainbow Connection Board. He was in the Eastern District Football Association Hall of Fame as well as the Dover-New Philadelphia Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Joe was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover where he served on church council, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He brought a wealth of knowledge and wisdom to each board or organization that he joined. He was always helping others and spent countless hours working to better our community.
His favorite pastimes were working in his yard and serving as a softball officiant, which he did for many years. He and Louise also loved attending and supporting Dover athletic events.
In addition to his wife, Louise, he will be sadly missed by his daughter; Julianne Maybaugh (fiancé, Ivan Hochstetler) of Dover; son, Jeffrey Maybaugh of Dover; two grandsons, Peter Perez of San Antonio, Texas, Jameson Maybaugh of Dover; brother, Clois “Fudie” (Judy) Maybaugh of Brewster; sister, Wanda (Mel) Arney of South Carolina; his nieces and nephews, as well as his close friend, Robert Everett of Mesquite, Nevada.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara J. Perez and infant son, Joseph Maybaugh Jr.
A funeral mass will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 11:00 am with Father Matt Hoover officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery in Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the church Family Life Center. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 4-8 pm. A Christian Wake service will take place at 7:45 pm.
