Joseph H. Cecil, 76, of Dover passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 4, 2018 in the Community Hospice Truman House surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 6, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky he was a son of the late Joseph E. Cecil and Mildred Shartzer Kinslow. Joe was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Kinslow.
Joe retired from Kent State University at Tuscarawas as a chemistry professor. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and served as Dover City Treasurer.
Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Schuler Cecil, whom he married on August 22, 1964; children, John (Minda) Cecil, Laura (James) Stone, Matthew Cecil, Elizabeth Cecil all of Dover, Joseph F. (Monica) Cecil of Maryland, James (Laura) Cecil of Virginia, Patricia (Daniel) Vogel of Indiana, Christina (Anthony) Fisher, Erin (Ricky) Neff both of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Serafia, J. Magnus, Sheila, Christopher, Natalie, Nicholas, Nadya, Riley, Trent, Katherine, Lydia, Scott, Lainey, Emily, Ava, Reagan; his first great grandchild due in March of 2019; one brother, Ronald Kinslow of Kentucky and one sister, Patricia Garrett of Indiana.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 8th at 10:30 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Wednesday from 4-7 pm with Christian Wake services starting at 6:45.
