Joseph J. "GI Joe" Incarnato, 79, of Dover, Ohio died Friday, February 29, 2008 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following a courageous six month battle with cancer.
Born June 4, 1928 in Dover, he was the son of the late Joseph A. "Papa Joe" and Effie L. Lake Incarnato. He was also preceded in death by his oldest son, Joseph J. III.
Joe retired in 1988 as Master Sgt. (E8) from the U.S. Army having served eleven years. He also was a retired Master Sgt. (E8) in the U.S. Marine Corp. where he served for twenty two years. He received a Purple Heart along with numerous other medals and fought in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir.
Joe owned and operated the former Joe's Cloverleaf Bar in downtown Dover for forty five years.
He was an avid motorcyclist and gun collector. He was a world traveler and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a 1946 graduate of Dover High School and was a life member of both the Dover VFW and the Tusco Rifle Club. He was also a member of the American Motorcycle Association.
Joe is survived by his wife Dixie Burson Murphy Incarnato with whom he celebrated 43 years of marriage on February 17; He is also survived by his children Jayne (James) DeNicola of Florida, Valerie (Phil) Hootman of New Philadelphia, James V. Incarnato of New Philadelphia, Vincent T. Incarnato of Dover, Kelly Incarnato of the home; two stepchildren, James A. Murphy of Dover and Cindy R. (Kelley) Fisher of Dover; one brother, Nicholas (Donna) Incarnato of Dover and ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and special friends, Terry Beans of New Philadelphia and Edward Dryden of Dover.
A funeral service celebrating Joe's life will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 1:30pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Dave Wing officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8pm and Thursday from 12:30-1:30pm.
