Joseph S. “Joey” Kelley, 59, of New Philadelphia, passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in the Community Hospice Truman House.
Born July 30, 1958, in Wheeling, WV, he was the son of the late Donald Kelley and Mary Ann Kelley of Medina. Joe graduated from Strasburg High School, and furthered his education at Kent State, and also graduated from Peace Officers Training Academy. Having grown up in the area, he met a lot of people whom he considered friends. Once Joe met Lori, she became the love of his life and best friend, the two were rarely apart. Together they loved to travel, camp and enjoyed going out to eat, which is how they met many close friends throughout the years. Whether you met Joe at a young age, or later in life, he was the same person, always true to himself and his beliefs. With Joe, you never got just his “two cents”, he gave you the whole damn dollar. Joe belonged to many social clubs; he enjoyed cooking, and loved spending time with family and friends.
In addition to Lori, his wife for over 20 years, and his mother Mary Ann, Joe is survived by his children, Phillip (Traci) Orzeck of Hawaii, Kathleen Orzeck of Columbus; grandchildren, Jayson, Elijah, Parker, Finnick; sisters, Donna Kelley of Medina, Michelle (Jeff) Rapoza of Copley; nephew, Donovan (Danielle) Kelley; sisters in law, Cathy (Dave) Killiany, Mary (Jon) Frisbee and brother in law, Steve (Heather) Kruk.
Calling hours and a celebration of Joe's life will take place on Friday, May 18 from 5-7 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 19th at 11:00 am in the Cadiz Union Cemetery. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at The Barn at Sally Buffalo Park.
