Joy L. Grossenbacher

Joy L. Grossenbacher, 93, of the Park Village in Dover and formerly of Strasburg and Bolivar died Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 in her home.

Born Oct. 23, 1923 near Dover (Columbia), Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Dortha (Page) Pongrat.

Joy was a retired employee of the former Teter's IGA in Strasburg where she worked for 15 years.

She was a member of the Community Baptist Church at Dover. She enjoyed gardening and raising house plants and flowers, visiting family and friends, spending time with her grandchildren and playing card games especially solitaire and canasta.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Charles "Chuck" Grossenbacher who died Jan. 26, 2014. She was also preceded by her brother and sister in law, Harry (Janice) Pongrat and an infant sister.

She will be sadly missed by her family that includes her four children, Sherry (Mike) Holingbaugh of Westmoreland, Tennessee, Max (Michele) Grossenbacher of Mineral City, Mark of New Philadelphia and Robert (Lisa) of Dover; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren along with a brother, Dick Bowen of El Paso, Texas.

Pastor Andy McClung will officiate services in memory of Joy on Tuesday, Nov. 22. 2016 beginning at 1:30pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-7pm.
