Katherine (Katie) Wayt Guffey, 95, of the New Dawn Health Care Center and formerly of Pompano Ln., New Philadelphia, Ohio died Monday, February 21, 2000 in the center following an extended illness.
Katie owned and operated the former Wayt’s Restaurant (Dinner Bell) and Katie’s Restaurant in Dover and Katie and Anna’s Dutch Oven Restaurant in New Philadelphia. She was in the restaurant business for over 35 years.
Born June 29, 1904 in Chardon, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Martha Miller Glick.
She was a Founding member of the Free Methodist Church in Sugarcreek and was an avid painter. In her later years, she also enjoyed fishing.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Garvin George Wayt who died Feb. 3, 1950 and her second husband, the Rev. L.E. Guffey who died January 25, 1984.
Katie is survived by two sisters Mrs. Earl (Anna) Hershberger of New Philadelphia and Mrs. Paul (Amanda) Gaumer of Tampa, Florida along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ann Glick and two brothers, Simon and Albert Glick.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 28, 2000 at 11:00 AM in the Free Methodist Church at Sugarcreek with Rev. Dwight Mason officiating. Interment will be in the Eastlawn Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and at the church Monday from 10-11 AM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Free Methodist Church at Sugarcreek or Free Methodist Missions.
