Katherine L. “Kathie” Jimison, 62, of Sugarcreek died Monday, December 13, 2004 following a brief illness.
Born February 24, 1942 at Martins Ferry, she was the daughter of the late Edwin B. and Dorothy Nelson Long.
Salutatorian of the 1960 class at Cadiz High School and a Cum Laude graduate of the Ohio State University with a degree in Home Economics, her passion for education led to her becoming a schoolteacher. After a one-year stint at New Athens Franklin High, she settled into the Garaway School system where she would become affectionately known by her students as “Mrs. J.”
Always active in the community, Kathie was a past chair of the Community Arts Council in Sugarcreek and was the longtime coordinator of Garaway School District(TM)s ARTSWEEK. She was also a member of the advisory council for Tuscarawas County 4-H and had served as an agent of the Guernsey County Extension Office.
The blend of her artistic talents and home economic background was the fuel for a kitchen design business that she started and took pride in as well.
She enjoyed her retirement and loved spending her newfound free time with her children and grandchildren. She was always doing something with her hands, too. She liked quilting and knitting, took great care of the lawn and landscape of her new Ragersville home, and especially looked forward to spending time assisting her husband of 40 years, Don Jimison who survives, with his noted wood carvings.
Other survivors include: two sons, Mike (Jennifer) Jimison of Columbus and Doug (Jennifer) Jimison of Louisville; two foster-daughters, Terri McKane of St. Petersburg, FL and Maria (Jim) Duvala of New Concord; a brother, Edwin B. (Patricia) Long of Uniontown; and nine grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Kathie was preceded in death by a brother, David and a sister, Jeanette.
A funeral service that celebrates Kathie(TM)s life will be held Saturday, December 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Pastor Larry Hinkle officiating. Friends may call in the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. or on Saturday, one hour prior to services. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
Those unable to attend or wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online register book for Kathie by visiting the “obituaries” link on the funeral home(TM)s website.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a Community Arts Council art scholarship established in her memory - the Mrs. J(TM)s Scholarship, PO Box 767, Sugarcreek, Ohio 44681.
